Almost May! 04/29/2010

I can't believe it's almost May. Time has just flown by! It's been an incredibly busy month at Shadow Lane Farm. On Easter we had the birth of our first lamb and since then have had two more babies. We're still waiting on our final lamb who seems to be taking his or her time!

At the same time, we're expecting a baby of our own! I'm due May 13th, so it's nice to be in the homestretch.

It isn't spring on a farm without baby chicks! We have some chickens headed to the processor on Monday, another batch already on pasture and some day old chicks expected tomorrow morning. The brooder awaits their arrival!

We've also got turkeys coming in. They are destined to be on your Thanksgiving table or to be made into turkey sausage. If you have any special requests, particularly for Christmas turkeys, please let us know so we can make special accommodations to have the right size bird for you at the right time. Finally, and most excitingly, we have pork and sausage available. We are now offering ribs, pork chops, loin roasts, boston butts, chorizo, hot italian sausage, and breakfast sausage. The bacon will be ready soon and in several months our holiday hams will be done curing.

Many of you have inquired about farm tours and we have delayed a bit given that we were having a bit of downtime on the farm. Now the animals and activity are back full force, so we'd love to hear from you and set up a time to show you and your family around.

We'll be attending the Aiken County Farmer's Market this weekend (located on Williamsburg, between Richland and Park) and working on plans to attend several Columbia markets during the week.

Hope to see you soon!
