Join our email list if you haven't already! You'll be the first to know when we have chicken available! An email from a customer after buying several chickens last year: The best chicken I ever ate! So full of flavor, it was almost like a game bird. I'm going to shoot myself in the foot, because I'm telling everyone I know how good it was, and then they're all going to buy chickens from you and there won't be any left for me. . . . Hi All, There’s a theorem that posits that in order to determine your “porn star” name, should you decide you’re in need of such, simply combine the name of your first pet with the name of the first street you lived on. Which, were I inclined to give up farming and go that way, would make me Boots Belvedere. Of course you can call me Bootsie. Boots was my first dog way back in elementary school. Since then I’ve been lucky enough to have my share of good dogs. When it came to getting Pepsi and Wendell, my second and third dogs, I skipped school and devoted the day to searching the classifieds and visiting the pound in order to find them. The day in middle school when I sought out Pepsi was my first experience with the freedom that comes from bending the rules, from taking a day off. It was a somewhat habit forming experience. By the time I adopted Wendell from the pound during my senior year in high school, they were calling it truancy. Limit was a very well bred English Pointer who followed Wendell in my life. In spite of being something like the canine equivalent of a Rothschild crossed with a Kennedy in terms of pedigree, he had no hip sockets to speak of, making him free instead of outlandishly expensive. Unrelenting in his pursuit of birds, he could have found Bin Laden years ago. If only Bin Laden smelled like a pheasant. At the moment we enjoy the company of the eponymous Scottish Terrier, Scot. Like many of his breed, he’s so aloof he makes Dick Cheney look huggable and kind. And this weekend we’re pleased to introduce a new dog, Hot. As in hotdogs. It’s wouldn’t be 4th of July weekend without hotdogs, so we’ve added them to our menu. House made with our beef and pork then lightly seasoned, they’re perfect grilled or pan fried. You’ll find yourself using words like “sensitive,” “alluring” and “hotdoggy” to describe them. Which may also be good words to describe a porn star. And yes, again like a porn star, we have nice fresh buns, too. We also have lots of other great foods for your table – burgers, steaks, salad greens, potatoes, sauerkraut. If you’re from Pennsylvania, that last item of course goes on your hot dog. And be sure to finish it all off with a Peach Tart. One definition of tart is “a nubile young temptress” but we prefer to think of them simply as peach pie’s hip, well dressed cousin. See you Saturday. Pre-ordering strongly encouraged. Craig, Sarah and Cal Menu - July 4th Weekend Breakfast: Go ahead, it's a holiday -- sleep late and enjoy a leisurely breakfast....
Getting this blog thing going again 05/28/2011
This spring has been really busy both on the farm and in the kitchen! We'll try to be a bit better about keeping the website updated. A couple things worth mentioning: We are now open Wednesdays evenings from 4:30 to 6:30. Please join our email list to find out what you can pick up for dinner and please try to order ahead when possible! We are back at the Aiken Farmer's Markets on Saturday mornings. It's great to be back and fun to see lots of familiar faces again! Our online order form has been a bit sketchy in the past....please order by email with the date in the subject line (i.e., Saturday order). We currently have all natural, pasture raised turkey, lamb, pork and beef. We'll have chicken again in July. At the moment eggs are in short supply, so be sure to reserve in advance. If you have a request, please make it! Whether that be later hours on Wednesday, that we bring back bagels or frittata, for pizzas to go on Fridays, or for help catering an event. We'll be happy to hear your thoughts and will surely consider requests. Thanks so much for your support! Turkeys! 11/19/2010
